Graduate Engineer, 5G PHY/MAC and Baseband Systems (Software Implementation)

Noema Signal Labs is developing next-generation non-linear MIMO processing technology to improve the performance and efficiency of 5G and future wireless networks. We are looking for a talented Graduate Engineer to join our team at an early stage of their career. This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and develop deep expertise in 5G baseband systems, signal processing and Open RAN, with close mentorship from our experienced engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and integration of software for 5G RAN systems across the PHY and MAC layers.

  • Assist in integrating advanced MIMO signal processing algorithms into open-source RAN platforms.

  • Learn and contribute to the optimisation of real-time signal processing workloads for low-latency baseband architectures.

  • Support system integration, testing and performance evaluation of 5G radio access network solutions.

  • Work closely with senior engineers and researchers to deliver high-performance implementations.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong C/C++ programming skills, demonstrated through academic projects, coursework or personal projects.

  • Solid understanding of digital signal processing fundamentals (e.g. filtering, FFT, modulation, OFDM), at degree level.

  • Familiarity with Linux-based development environments.

Highly Desirable Skills

  • Exposure to wireless communications systems at university level (e.g. final year project or MSc dissertation related to 5G NR, LTE, or WiFi).

  • Some familiarity with 3GPP NR standards, even at a conceptual level.

  • Any experience with real-time software development, even in a lab or academic context.

  • Familiarity with OpenAirInterface (OAI), srsRAN, or similar open-source RAN codebases.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with software-defined radio platforms (e.g. USRP, GNU Radio), even in a lab or academic context.

  • Experience with SIMD/AVX intrinsics or any form of CPU-level optimisation.

  • Exposure to GPU programming (CUDA/OpenCL).

Non-Technical Skills

  • Strong problem-solving ability and willingness to learn quickly in a fast-moving environment.

  • Ability to read and understand technical standards and research papers.

  • Interest in working at the boundary between research and engineering.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a small team.

What We Offer

  • A unique opportunity to develop deep technical expertise in 5G baseband systems and Open RAN at an early stage of your career.

  • Close mentorship from experienced engineers and researchers.

  • A key role within a growing deep-tech startup working on technology that will shape the future of wireless communications.

  • Close collaboration with leading academic research groups and industry partners.
